AI as build leverage
Senior engineering judgment plus AI tooling on the implementation side equals commercial software an indie can actually ship. The combination is more useful than either piece alone.
About Matthew Jucius
I've been writing software for thirty years: backend Java early on, customer-facing backends for the second half. Day job: engineer working on hard problems. Jucius Labs is what nights and weekends produce, currently sitting at the seam of AI and full stack development. The commercial apps started as my own pain points; the smaller projects started as questions I just wanted to answer.

The best problems to solve are the ones you've already lived with as a user. Scouted came from watching my kid's college recruiting. Cesium Events came from missing meetings. Cozi MCP came from my family's calendar.
Most products are made worse by features no one asked for. The hard part of design is deciding what not to ship. Cesium Events is what that looks like when I commit fully.
Jucius Labs is the independent software studio of Matthew Jucius. It ships paid native apps (Scouted and HitMark on iOS, Cesium Events on the Mac App Store), free web tools (Geography Nerd), and open-source developer utilities (cesium-kafka, cozi_mcp, py-cozi-client, bitmapper-core).
Just me, Matthew Jucius. 30 years writing software. Backend Java first, customer-facing backends since. Day-job software engineer; Jucius Labs is nights and weekends, currently sitting at the seam of AI and full-stack development.
It is the way most of the implementation gets done here: senior engineering judgment on the architecture and product side, AI tooling on the implementation side. The combination is what lets an indie ship commercial software at the pace these projects move.
